Supplements

One of the things I first researched after finding out my liver was struggling was supplements. Quite a few people in the support groups I’m in toss out advice to take various things, do “cleanses” and such. I almost jumped on the bandwagon without asking my specialist at the onset, so desperate to right things, it didn’t occur to me that feeding an already struggling liver more things it had to deal with before it got to the task of healing itself was not necessarily a wise idea.

I like to say prior to changing my methods to whole, clean foods, assuming any one thing would have “fixed” me would be akin to tossing a deck chair off the Titanic to stop it from sinking. No magic for that.

“The real reason that diet, exercise, avoiding toxins, and reducing stress can be thought of as the solution is without those you can't get to heal a 100%. Supplements can make a big difference only if you have a healthy lifestyle. With a diet of processed foods, alcohol, and a sedentary lifestyle the added therapies and supplements are usually a waste. You have to invest in yourself first before you invest in other modalities.”

As it turns out, none of those things were approved by my doctor, and thank goodness I didn’t have a package of lord knows what arrive on my doorstep via Amazon. I would have, could have done far more harm than good.

So folks, while some things may be beneficial, always, always talk to your doctor first. You never know the reaction your body may have and some things can interfere with other medications as well. Sometimes it is the quality of the supplements or the fillers they use. I focused on getting those nutrients right from the horses mouth, the food it came from.

Be cautious about what you put in your bodies. Keep it clean out there, kids. Do your research and check with your medical team before you invest.

Love, Sue
