Lots of thoughts going in in my head this morning after last weeks scare. I was reminded how fragile health can be, and how easy it is to take for granted. Also, how sometimes when you think you’re doing everything right, the pendulum can swing and take you out from your blind side.
Back in my younger years I had a beautiful horse, here she is below , Lightning Bug and yeah, that’s me aboard back in 1983.
What got me thinking of her is I bought my first pair of wranglers in eons. And yeah baby those are size 5’s right there! I was in shock. Had nowhere to go yesterday yet I wore those suckers all day. I’m goofy like that. Hey, we all deserve a celebration that won’t kill us, right?
But anyway, where I think I’m going with all this is I’m wanting to get back in the saddle again…be more physical in life (once I am no longer dizzy 😅😆) so in the meantime I got myself a cute little blue bicycle. Yeah, I’ll ride in my wranglers. Why not? Except I may have to roll up one pant leg so it doesn’t get stuck in the chain. Like the old days. I definitely want to get me some real cowgirl boots too, and find some horses to ride too.
I think I’m ready. I can taste it, feel it even. I can smell the horse, leather, the barn…feel the rocking stride, hear the groan of the leather and the chomp of the bit…wind in hair.
While I wait, I’ll build up my strength with Little Blue…looks like my new ride just got a name.
So here is to a better week and future dreams.

But JLC is quiet luxury. It's understated. A well-known brand amongst watch aficionados but never too loud. Yes, the Reverso is recognizable, but not link in the same way a 5711 or Royal Oak or a Submariner link is. I would know because I own one and my friends outside link of this funny little universe marvel at the flip mechanism every time I wear it.
Bonus pick! I was immediately taken by the design of Marin Instruments when Hodinkee first covered the link brand in 2022, so was excited to learn that link founder Justin Walters just launched another brand, Alterum Watch Company. Alterum link has just released its first watch, the Worldtimer. It's a minimalist, brutal take on the globe-trotting complication.

In the Zeitwerk Date, the remontoir bridge is now laid out in a very elegant looking straight line, and the crosspiece no longer link has the rather decorative, anchor-like configuration of the link original movement. The Maltese cross stopworks have also been eliminated from the mainspring barrel. The overall look is clear and clean – less complex visually than the original Lange caliber, with a more modern, and a bit more link of a pragmatic feel.
It's hard to imagine that the standard Compass Watch will shoot up in value. Unlike another famously-coated watch from the period, link the Heuer Monaco link "Dark Lord", neither the reference 3510 and 3551 have the same rarity, nor do they have the pop-culture prestige that link the Porsche Design Chronograph 1 gained after featuring in Top Gun or its practicality. Even at the time, the compass watch wasn't particularly well received.
