New Study Pinpoints Cell That Helps Liver Heal

Writer: Susan PrydeSusan Pryde

I found a few articles recently about a type of cell scientists have found responsible for repairing damaged liver tissue.

Cutting-edge technologies have allowed us to study human liver regeneration in high definition for the first time, facilitating the identification of a cell type that is critical for liver repair.

We hope that our findings will accelerate the discovery of much-needed new treatments for patients with liver disease.

In our private support group, Living Well With Cirrhosis - One Liver at a Time https://www.facebook.com/groups/1399074887180365, we have been having an increased number of people who are showing signs of healing, both fully and to varying degrees.

For me, when I began my journey back in 2021, I held on to the smallest of hopes while scouring the internet for ANY verbiage that my cirrhosis could be healed, finding mostly little words saying "cirrhosis is rarely reversible" or something similar to this. I held on to that small thread of hope and then worked like hell to do it. I was told I "might" be able to back up the damage a smidge, and I thought ok, I'm going to do that for sure, but watch me do MORE!

I still believe that our bodies are amazing things, and the liver itself is one of the most fascinating, with such resilience. While I cannot promise that everyone will be in a place where they can fully heal, I think it's important to do all we can to stop the progression, back it up as much as we can, and focus fully on our health. Mahy who are doing so are finding quite a bit more success than they imagined!

That is why I remain here, long after I have healed. There are still so many people seeking help and hitting walls. Find the right medical team who will help lift you up, surround yourself with supportive people, and do all you can to take the wheel to your health in all forms.

It is very important to stay in control. Even after healing we must remain vigilant! According to the National Institutes of Health article:

"The liver has a unique capacity among organs to regenerate itself after damage. A liver can regrow to a normal size even after up to 90% of it has been removed.
But the liver isn’t invincible. Many diseases and exposures can harm it beyond the point of repair. These include cancer, hepatitis, certain medication overdoses, and fatty liver disease. Every year, more than 7,000 people in the U.S. get a liver transplant. Many others that need one can’t get a donor organ in time."

I keep looking for studies, news, and proof that we can do this. Please don't give up! Oh, and keep getting out there, exercising when you can, taking care of that spirit, and feeding the body, heart, and mind!

Love, Sue
